The PIT BULL explosion in America and the irresponsible people who breed them. Young males who harbor dogs that aren't neutered and not licensed or vaccinated are tainting the reputation of an outstanding breed of dog.

Pit Bulls are among the most common shelter dogs for several reasons: Breeders who attempt to make a quick buck in a matter of 60 days often do not sell all of a large litter and the leftover ones are released to shelters.

Backyard Breeders do not care who buys their dogs and most often, their pups are impulse purchases for families who simply have no time for training and exercising an active dog breed. After 6 months of keeping a puppy who may be large, untrained and not housebroken, the adolescent is now causing havoc and the family no longer wants the responsibility, so they drop him off at a shelter.

Since breeders rarely keep tabs on dogs after they have been sold, they cannot ensure that they are justly spayed and neutered either. Pets who are unfixed tend to roam, get into fights and are the reason for more unwanted pets through overpopulation. A female can produce a litter of pups at puberty which is 6 months of age.............Spaying and neutering MUST be done before 6 months.

Macho, uneducated, inner city MALES like to have a strong muscular UNneutered dog hanging off the other end of the leash. It feeds their ego.

Pit Bulls have fallen victim to irresponsible pet owners who don't care for them properly. If the same people chose standard poodles as their breed of choice, we would be seeing unneutered, matted, ungroomed poodles running loose, or being chained up without attention, adequate food and shelter and little socialization. The poodle breed would then be recognized as a dangerous dog and then breed specific legislation (BSL) would be targeting poodles.

ANY dog who is mistreated, abused or neglected is at risk for being a nuisance.

Abel DeLuna of Idaho, in the above clipping was irresponsible and careless....Not even a basic rabies shot or inexpensive dog license was bought for him. The dog suffered and was humanely killed. The dog fell victim to being owned by a BAD HUMAN.

Pit Bulls of adoptable origin make up about 40-60% of many American shelters. Please consider adopting one today. The breed is suffering due to mankind
